Intercontinental Istanbul Eurasia Marathon will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2008. The event will take place on Sunday, 26 October.
Cheruiyot and Tesema Victorious in Istanbul
Kenyan David Emmanuel Cheruiyot and Ethiopian Atsede Bayisa Tesema took
the marathon titles at the 29th edition of the Intercontinental
Istanbul Eurasia Marathon.
Cheruiyot, who kept running in the leading group from the start, broke the course record in a time of 2:10:56 by his strong finish sprint. On the women’s side, it was an easy win for Tesema. The twenty-year old Ethiopian crossed the finish line in 2:29:05.
The 15km race saw world class results as well. Shimelis Girma of Ethiopia broke the tape at 43:20 in the men’s race. Romanian Luminita Talpos, who placed eighth at the World Road Running Championships earlier in October, beat her African rivals in 48:42.
PRIZE MONEY RAISES UP TO 1,001,000 DOLLARS
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality nearly doubled the cash prize pool of
the Intercontinental Istanbul Eurasia Marathon. The elite field on 28
October 2007 will be in hunt of their share of a $ 1,001,000 purse.
The winners in both men’s and women’s marathon will receive $ 60,000 each.
A course record this year is worth $ 10,000 while a world record
performance would awarded $ 100,000. The participants of the 15km race and
the marathon wheelchair category will also be entitled for prizes in their
events.

Participants of the Istanbul Eurasia Marathon will be able to order their race photos online. HOSTING THE BALKANS
The 29th edition of the Intercontinental Istanbul Eurasia Marathon incorporates the Balkan Marathon Championships. It is the fourth time that the Balkan Marathon Championships take place within the Eurasia Marathon since the event was separated from the Balkan Games/Championships that have a long history dating back to 1929. Balkan marathoners crowned champions in Istanbul in 2001, 2002 and 2005. All ten countries of the Balkans are expected to participate on 28 October 2007.

The only intercontinental marathon of the world will take place on October 28 this year. In addition to the marathon, the program includes a 15km race as well as a fun run.
